On our drive through the streets of Mumbai, there wasn’t a single motorist who wasn’t checking it out or giving it some very excited thumbs up. But design rights aside, the Thar is a very tough and modern-looking SUV with even more road presence than before. We’re sure that a certain carmaker whose name starts with J will be foaming at the mouth because there’s no denying how much this new Thar looks like a Wrangler two door.

It’s always difficult to update an age-old design without upsetting anyone, but Mahindra has, for the most part, done it right. Mahindra Thar Five-door: The five-door Thar has been spied again under camouflage revealing new design details.
It also rivals similarly priced compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Rivals: The Mahindra Thar is a rival to the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Safety: On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, rear parking sensors and a front seat belt reminder. Mahindra has also included a washable interior floor as well as detachable roof panels.

The RWD option is offered in three variants while the prices are applicable to the first 10,000 bookings of the RWD Thar. Latest Update: Mahindra has launched RWD variants of the Thar although only in the hard top guise.
